Questions Raised About Nature of "Asteroid"

Athens – As the catastrophic impact settles in and the initial fears for secondary disasters have lessened, experts have started to raise questions about the official explanation about what exactly hit us. In some circles on the internet conspiracies have even appeared that the asteroid was not an asteroid at all but an attack by aliens to warn us against future space exploration.

While not a believer of the theory, Ivan Bogdanić does not believe that the object was an asteroid. At least not any seen before. Professor Bogdanić is a former member of the Asteroid Tracking project and at the start of this year took a job in the Astronomy department of the University of Zagreb. At 32 years he is considered by many one of the greatest minds in the field. “Asteroids are slow moving objects, we know where they are centuries before they can even reach us. The Hellenic Space Force has been created in part to prevent catastrophic impacts on Earth and the sensors on Stargate 1 as well as the ground stations would have known about this long ago. I have reviewed our own telescopes and likely much like the government’s they only detected the object minutes before it hit. Furthermore even the most dense asteroids shouldn’t have had this massive an impact for its size. That it did not burn up in the atmosphere means it is made of an extremely heavy metal, not the ice or iron cores you usually expect.”

When asked why the government would maintain that it’s an asteroid the Professor had a quick answer. “They probably don’t know what it was. I don’t believe in these fringe theories that they are hiding some aliens or something and that it’s an attack. But this object broke all known laws of physics. It should not be able to exist. The asteroid story is likely just because they don’t know any better what it is. The Hellenic Space Agency will want to isolate the object and if possible transport it to a secure lab for investigation. Whatever it is and how much damage it did. It managed to go at a speed ten times faster than our fastest Tesla drive. That’s important.”

Much like the Professor expected, the government has declared a 50km exclusion zone around the impact site after any survivors were evacuated. All roads into the area are subject to military checkpoints and drones are used to patrol the zone. While we do not know if the security is even more strict further inside, it would appear likely. Press and other civilians have been denied entry with only military vehicles and government vehicles with Imperial plates allowed entry.

We asked the Hellenic Space Agency and Hellenic Space Force about comment but neither were willing to respond. The Ministry of Emergency Management has released a statement that the priority right now is on helping the survivors. The exact nature of the asteroid will be investigated when that priority has been achieved. The Ministry has accepted international offers of aid with search and rescue efforts as well as building of camps for survivors to protect them from the harsh winter cold.
