Hellenic Forces Military Movements

OOC: This is basically a catch all thread for any military movements and operations not part of a larger conflict/operation.

IC:

With the addition of Martinique, the Kerguelen Islands and the Austral Islands as well as the leased bases in Saint Pierre and Miquelon, New Caledonia, and Guiana the Hellenic Navy needed to fundamentally redraw its organization. While the fleet had always been intended to have a global reach, it had been built in the expectation that it would need to operate independent from any regional supply lines and rely on its reserves and anything that could be brought in from the Athenian mainland. This meant that most of the time it would be restricted to the North Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean. While the aircraft carriers with their nuclear power production were capable of an essentially unlimited range, the escort ships lacked that same capability and it still needed fuel for the planes as well. This meant that only the submarine force of the Hellenic Navy could truly act globally without restrictions.

Now however a network of not just allied but actually Athenian owned bases existed that had a global reach. The South Atlantic, the Pacific Ocean, the shorelines of the Americas and East Asia, all were within range of the Hellenic Navy. Taking advantage of this reality several naval movements would occur. The Second Fleet would move to the western Atlantic and base themselves in Martinique and Guiana with its headquarters in Guiana. The same applied to the II Marine Expeditionary Force which would also be stationed in Martinique. In general the Second Fleet would be responsible for all operations in the South Atlantic and the coastline of Central and South America.

The First Fleet would remain in the Mediterranean and be responsible for the defence of that sea. While almost the entire Navy had originally been focused on the Mediterranean, the establishment of the Byzantine League and the treaty with France meant that Athens could now afford to have its belly significantly less defended and instead spread out. The Fleet would continue being headquartered in Athens and share the infrastructure of the Admiralty for command and control. The HNS Empress Athanasia would also continue being the flagship and pride of the Hellenic Navy.

While the war against Iraq was ongoing the Third Fleet would also maintain its current position and continue operating as part of the 1st Force. Once that war ended or once the full fleet was no longer needed it would be assigned to the Indian Ocean at large temporarily and be based at the Kerguelen Islands. In the longterm however the goal would be for Basra to serve as the headquarters of the Third Fleet.

The Fourth Fleet would also be assigned to the Indian Ocean and for now be split between the Indian and Pacific Oceans with headquarters in the Kerguelen Islands and on Tupuaʻi. Once the Third Fleet could be focused more permanently on the Indian Ocean at large or a Sixth Fleet could be created the Fourth Fleet would be permanently assigned to the Pacific Ocean and have its headquarters exclusively on Tupuaʻi. For now it would be responsible for all operations in the Pacific Ocean and support the Third Fleet in the Indian Ocean.

The Fifth Fleet finally would be headquartered in Malta but despite this have the North Atlantic and the North American and European coastlines as its domain. While headquartered in Malta, the fleet would use Martinique as well as French and League naval bases for supplies.

The standing orders for all Fleets not actively part of a larger operation was to patrol their assigned waters and protect the integrity and security of the Athenian Federation. This would include the active patrol of the Athenian Exclusive Economic Zone and protection of Athenian and allied merchant vessels from piracy.

The Hellenic Navy Strategic Operations Force, independent from the regular fleet structure meanwhile would have two Pandora Class Ballistic Missile submarines operating in the Atlantic Ocean, another two Pandora Class Ballistic Missile submarines in the Indian Ocean, and a final Pandora Class Ballistic Missile submarine in the Pacific Ocean. These boats were always ready to execute the order they hoped to never receive. To maintain the secrecy of the ballistic missile force these submarines would all resupply at HNB Athens. This way even if an enemy could somehow obtain the identities of them they would still not be able to establish where they were located based on the port used.

While the Hellenic Navy had its own air capability through the Hellenic Navy Air Force, the Hellenic Air Force would also station some aircraft at the new bases for easier use in global operations. The 3rd Air Assault Division and 40th Unmanned Air Division would be stationed at HFB Martinique while the 38th Unmanned Air Division would be stationed at HFB Port Christmas. Finally the 44th Unmanned Air Division and 8th Air Assault Division would be stationed at HFB Tupua’i.
